Meet Jenny Hannack and Bobbie Turner

Jenny Hannack (left) and Bobbie Turner (right) on the first day of school in September 2022.

Several years ago Jenny Hannack started believing education should foster curiousity and a love for learning and it could be much different for our children. Jenny has over 25 years as an educator. She left the school system to make an impact by starting her own tutoring business in 2017. Jenny began envisioning what a new type of school could look like. Then, a friend recommended the book Courage to Grow, by Laura Sandefer. This book was exactly the type of school she had been envisioning!

Jenny began sharing the book with friends she knew. She wanted to start a school but wanted a partner or a team of people to work with together.

Jenny gave the book to Bobbie Turner and she was inspired by what school could be for every learner as an individual. Bobbie has middle school-aged learners with varied skill-levels and interests, and she thought this could be the solution to what her family was looking for. Being in business for years required working with various types of personalities and creating a team-centered environment through team accountability. Therefore, the Acton covenants were especially important to her. Promises and goals are interwoven in the daily, weekly, monthly and yearly cycles. Once they embrace the growth mindset vs. the regular fixed mindset all learners can thrive.

Jenny and Bobbie, with the support of several friends and family members, started Spring Forth Academy Corporation as a 501c3 non-profit which is ran by a board of directors. Spring Forth Academy launched the Fall of 2022. We firmly believe every child has been uniquely created by God to find a calling to change the world.

Laura Sandefer

Advisor and Acton Academy Co-Founder

Laura lived on both US coasts and in between as a child, then settled into Vanderbilt University for her undergraduate studies in the College of Arts and Science. After being awarded the highly competitive Walter Wattles Fellowship at Lloyd’s of London, Laura worked in the aviation insurance industry in New York City.

Deciding to follow her calling into the world of education, Laura returned to Nashville and earned her Master of Education at Peabody College. This led her to her work at the Oklahoma Arts Institute, creating fine arts education programs for teachers and talented high school students.

Laura married Jeff Sandefer and is the happy mother of Sam and Charlie and step-mother to Taite. It is the inspiration of these children that led Laura and Jeff to co-found Acton Academy.

Her greatest hero is her mother who was a Master Teacher. Her wisest mentor is her father who sent her off to college with two words of advice: “Be curious.”
